Privacy Policy

The CIEHF operates several websites including ergonomics.org.uk, ergonomics4schools.com and individual event websites. It is our policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our websites. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

Website Visitors

Like most website operators, the CIEHF collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Our purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how our visitors use our website. From time to time, we may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g. by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.

The CIEHF also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users and for users leaving comments on our site. We only disclose logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below, except that commenter IP addresses are visible and disclosed to the administrators of the site where the comment was left.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to the CIEHF’s websites choose to interact with the CIEHF in ways that require us to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that we gather depends on the nature of the interaction. Those who engage in transactions with us are asked to provide information, including as necessary the personal and financial information required to process those transactions. In each case, the CIEHF collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with us. The CIEHF does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below and visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

If you are a member of the CIEHF, we may collect the following information: your username and full name; your email address; demographic information such as your general location, preferences and interests. The information as it appears in your ‘MyIEHF’ details is under your control. You can change your name, email address and other personal details at any time. We require this information to provide you with a better service, and for use in membership lists on the website. We will never disclose your location or email address in our publicly available membership lists. We may use your email address to send you newsletters concerning the Institute and its services to you.

Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

The CIEHF discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors and affiliated organisations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on the CIEHF’s behalf or to provide services available on the CIEHF’s websites, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those employees, contractors and affiliated organisations may be located outside of your home country; by using our websites, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. We will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to its employees, contractors and affiliated organisations, as described above, the CIEHF discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of the CIEHF, third parties or the public at large. We take all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorised access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.

Cookies

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. The CIEHF uses cookies to help us identify and track visitors and their usage of our website. Visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using our websites, with the drawback that certain features of our websites may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

Links to other websites

Our website may contain links to other websites of interest. However, once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide whilst visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement. You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website in question.

Privacy Policy Changes

Although most changes are likely to be minor, the CIEHF may change its Privacy Policy from time to time, and at our sole discretion. We encourages visitors to frequently check this page for any changes to our Privacy Policy. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
