Southern Regional Group

This region has a number of large sectors, for example:

• Defence (air, land and sea) through organisations such as AWE, Quintec, Qinetic, DSTL.
• Aviation through organisations such as NATS, AAIB, CTC, CAE.
• Transport through organisation such as the Transport Research Laboratory
• Research through major universities such as Oxford.

Our events tend to be in the form of visits to major organisations. The hosts normally give presentations on the work they are carrying out and arrange a visit of their facilities. These have included:

Our visits usually attract 20 to 30 people and are often over subscribed.

“I have been working in human factors for 35 years mainly in aviation research and design. I worked in the design teams for Tornado GR1 and F3 in the 80s and became the only female civilian to fly in both Tornado Variants. In the 90s I was the Farnborough Cockpit Group Manager responsible for both research and Harrier Project support. I was the UK Industry representative for NATO AGARD Aeromedical Panel and RTO Human Factors and Medicine Panel for 9 years and received their Excellence Award in 2001.

I have worked for ESE Associates Ltd as a Director/HF Consultant since 1999 which has a broad customer base. Most recently I have produced a series of human factors/CRM training videos which I enjoyed making in conjunction with the CAA and major airlines. My longevity in human factors had enabled me to build a long list of contacts in many fields which has proved most useful in setting up regional group meetings. I have been involved in the running of the Southern Regional Group for about 20 years and recognise the value and importance of networking.”
